National Cadet Corps

NCC

The National Cadets Corps is Military educational training programme Under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. It is open to school and college students on voluntary basis as a Tri-Services Organisation, comprising the Army, the Navy and the Air Force, engaged in developing the youth of the country into disciplined and patriotic citizens. The cadets are given basic military training in small arms and drill.

Gujarat Arts & Commerce College (Evening), Ahmedabad, Gujarat had also taken an initiative to promote National Cadets Corps (NCC) in the Institute with the support of 01 Gujarat Battalion unit, Ahmedabad. The maximum authorised vacancy in Army is 105 cadets. The opportunity is equally available for Boys and Girls students admitted in 1st year of UG regular programs only. The selection of Cadets is strictly supervised by the NCC Unit.

  • NCC cadets have a lot of academic incentives too.
  • As a mandate of NEP-2020, NCC is now become part of university curriculum also.

National Service Scheme (NSS) was introduced in 1969 with the primary objective of developing the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community service. ‘Education through Service’ is the purpose of the NSS.

SAPTADHARA or Seven Streams was initiated:

  1. To involve students in academic, co curricular and extracurricular activities of their choice and interest.
  2. To create a confluence of activities so that the flow of activities continues unabated and functions asmedium to channelize other streams and activities.
  3. To provide options to students and staff members for association and development through activities of interest.
  4. To improve the overall involvement of students and help them mould their personality.

Human wisdom and knowledge has become transnational and is being transferred globally in an unprecedented way by dint of amazing process of science and technology. The world has almost become a ‘Global Village’. Human mind is being explored and exploited to its fullest in the domains of knowledge and learning world over. When India is going to be a global leader and a torch-bearer to the world in days to come, it is expected that every citizen of India is able to take initiatives on his own and is aptly equipped with rich and noble values of our glorious cultural and historical heritage. This global image of Gujarat follows our practices in science, technology, research, education, trade and commerce, proper administration and our traditions. In the light of this scenario that the Higher Education of State emphasizes new policies and action plans to infuse and instill within the youth of Gujarat the spirit of global competition and to encourage them to display their talents to meet challenges of the newer changing order of the world.

  • Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav and Swarnim Gujarat Mission for Excellence coincide with Gujarat celebrating its glorious  half century since the establishment of the state. The State proposes to induce renewed spirit and to introduce newer action plans encompassing all walks of life for the betterment of the society .
  • To fulfil this noble mission, colleges and universities across Gujarat focus on various areas of education, art and knowledge for the manifold progress of the youth. These areas of focus are known as Band/Cluster/Spectrum/Continuum/Symphony of Activities(Dharas)
Activities
  • In our college, Under Saptdhara initiative different activities focusing on skill development and skill enhancement of students are conducted such as creative writing, proof reading workshop ,essay writing competition, poetry recitationElocution competition, poster making, painting, salad decoration, rangoli making, drama workshop,sports avtivities for the overall development of students.
  • Under Saptadhara , we have been focusing on many Govt. initiatives such as HAR GHAR TIRANGA, CLIMATE CHANGE, DRUGS FREE INDIA, SWACHCHH BHARAT ABHIYAN etc. Awareness programs and various competition on these themes have been conducted involving huge participation of students and increase their commitment and enthusiasm towards a brighter better India.
  • Saptadhara is playing a vital role in guiding the youth, creating awareness and boosting their enthusiasm in a constructive manner by involving them in activities such as SHARING IS CARING, PLANTATION OF TREES, CLEAN CAMPUS GREEN CAMPUS, BREAST CANCER AWARENESS.

The Government of Gujarat has created a policy to aid startups and innovative ventures. This program allows individuals or groups with innovative concepts to be eligible, as well as educational institutions, incubation centers, research and development organizations, public sector undertakings, private establishments, and other approved institutions, to provide support and mentorship to innovators as approved by Committee.

At Gujarat Arts and Commerce College (Evening), Ahmedabad, we have a SSIP committee formulated and actively undertaking activities to involve students and develop latent entrepreneurship skills in the students.

  • Outreach and sensitize 5 million students for innovation and entrepreneurship, covering at least 1000 Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) and 10,000 Schools of the State.
  • Support to 10,000 student-led Proof-of-Concepts (PoCs/Prototype).
  • Assistance to 5000 IP filings.
  • Build capacity for at least 500 educational institutions and universities in the State, to have a robust preincubation support system for beneficiaries.
  • Nurture 1000 school student led innovations.
  • Groom 1500 student Start-ups and upscale existing Start-ups.
  • Incubate 500 Start-up (physical and virtual).
  • Support to 500 Start-up under Start-up Srujan Seed Support (Up to INR 10 Lac).

We have an active SSIP committee working well in-line with the guidelines of SSIP 2.0. The development of skills, employment, and good personality among the people of the nation is the main responsibility of the government and the medium of education is a major deciding factor in achieving this goal. With this objective in mind, the Finishing School Initiative was launched in the year 2016 by the Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat, the Department of Education, and the Government of Gujarat. The objective of the Finishing School Training is to impart soft skills training and spoken English training to the students of Gujarat State and increase their employability. For this till the year 2021-22, from the list of empanelled trainers, trainers were selected and appointed by respective Institute who then trained students in a total of 371 colleges of Gujarat state. From the year 2022-23, two agencies were appointed and allotted by KCG for conducting the training across the institutes of Gujarat.

Purpose
  • Finishing School aims at empowering students with various Skill sets in addition to Knowledge that makes them Industry ready. Finishing School Trainers enable students to hone their Life Skills, Employability Skills, Functional and Spoken English Skills so as to carve a niche in the competitive and dynamic world.
  • Finishing school training is given to final year students studying in college Finishing school training is also given to postgraduate students from the year 2019-20.
  • So far, there are trainers for 85 Life Skills and Employment Skills components, and 37 English Component trainers who have national/international certification and corporate experience have been impaneled by KCG.
  • A total of 80 hours of training is given to the students under finishing school. Which have been divided into a total of 4 components.
Vision

To prepare Graduating students of Gujarat for better employability, Industry readiness, and a prosperous career through appropriate training interventions. The vision goes a step further beyond Gujarat to spread the progressive initiative of Finishing School throughout India.

  • The Mission of Finishing School initiative is to train the young minds such that they emerge as polished diamonds in their respective fields and to prepare them for the corporate world by enhancing their Leadership and Employability Skills.
  • The Finishing School Initiative aims at creating an India where no Youth is left behind when it comes to seeking employment just due to skill gaps. Thus, we take a step towards creating trained Industry ready youth and they take a step towards creating a better nation and a brighter future.

  • To provide such students with suitable Training in Modules that add value to their education and enable them to leverage on best career opportunities

The Training Structure consists of 4 Segments

Set- A (LIFE SKILL & EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS)- 20 Hours
Set- B (FUNCTIONAL ENGLISH SKILL-1) – 20 Hours
Set- C (LIFE SKILL & EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS) – 20 Hours
Set- D (FUNCTIONAL ENGLISH SKILL-2) – 20 Hours

Benefits

Every year students from the Gujarat Arts and Commerce College (Evening), Ahmedabad take benefit of Finishing School in a batch size ranging from 35-55 students and get rigorous training of 80 hours. In the year 2021-22 a batch of 39 students took benefit of the Finishing School.

Rashtriya Uchchattar Shiksha Abhiyan is a holistic scheme of development for higher education in India initiated in 2013 by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The centrally sponsored scheme aims at providing strategic funding to higher educational institutions throughout the country.

Vision

To attain higher levels of access, equity and excellence in the State higher education system with greater efficiency, transparency, accountability and responsiveness. Key Features: Norm-based and performance-based funding.

Launched in 2013, the RUSA aims at providing strategic funding to eligible state higher educational institutions. The central funding (in the ratio of 60:40 for general category states, 90:10 for special category states and 100% for union territories) is based on norms and is outcome dependent.

Mission

Campus years are treasured by graduates long after they leave the hallowed portals of their universities. Not only does that time shape their thinking, this phase allows young minds to open up, to understand the path they want to take, and sometimes, more importantly, the road they don’t want to follow.

With that at the very core, the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan, a centrally sponsored programme, aims to work with 300-plus state universities and its affiliated colleges to raise the bar of campus life.

RUSA isn’t a touch-up tint of paint .It is the central government’s plan to develop every state university to its most exemplary version

Objective

The key objectives of RUSA are to improve access, equity and quality in higher education through planned development of higher education at the state level. Objectives include creating new academic institutions, expanding and upgrading the existing ones, developing institutions that are self-reliant in terms of quality education, professionally managed, and characterized by greater inclination towards research and provide students with education that is relevant to them as well the nation as a whole.

Eco Club

Eco Club

Eco club is Environmental activity programme Under the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. It is empowering students to explore environmental concepts and actions beyond the confines of a syllabus or curriculum. While everyone, everywhere, asserts the importance of ‘learning to live sustainably,’ environment remains a peripheral issue in the formal schooling system.

Gujarat Arts & Commerce College (Evening) had also taken an initiative to promote environmental activities with the support of National Green Corps (NGC), Gir Foundation, Gandhinagar. The Eco Club (It is also known as VAN Vihar) has been started from 2018. The Institution Eco club is empowering students to participate and take up meaningful environmental activities and projects. It is a forum through which students can reach out to influence, engage their parents and neighbourhood communities to promote sound environmental behaviour.The Institution Eco club plays an important role in creating environmental awareness amongst the future generation.

Objectives
  • Motivate the students to keep their surroundings green and clean by undertaking plantation of trees.
  • Promote ethos of conservation of water by optimizing the use of water.
  • Motivate students to imbibe habits and life style for minimum waste generation, source separation of waste and disposing the waste to the nearest storage point.
  • To develop skills of observation, experimentation, survey, recording, analysis, reasoning needed for conserving environment through activities
  • Organise seminars, debates, lectures and popular talks on environmental issues in the school to motivate the students to keep their surroundings green and clean.
  • Promote ethos of conservation of water by optimizing the use of water and cleaning of water body in the adjacent area.
  • Motivate students to imbibe habits and life style for minimum waste generation, source separation of waste and disposing the waste to the nearest storage point.
  • Educate students to create awareness amongst public and sanitary workers, so as to stop the indiscriminate burning of waste which causes respiratory diseases.
  • Sensitize the students to minimize the use of plastic bags, not to throw them in public places as they choke drains and sewers, cause water logging and provide breeding ground for mosquitoes.
  • Organize tree plantation programmes, awareness programmes such as quiz, essay, painting competitions, rallies, Nukkad Natak etc. regarding various environmental issues and educate children about re-use of waste material & preparation of products out of waste
  • Campaign against use of loud speakers, motivate students not to use crackers and fireworks, recycling of glass and metals, use of unnecessary horns.
  • Field visits to environmentally important sites including polluted and degraded sites, wildlife parks, etc.
  • Organise rallies, marches, human chains and street theatre at public places with a view to spread environmental awareness.
  • Action based activities like tree plantation, cleanliness drives both within and outside the school campus.
  • Grow kitchen gardens, maintain vermin-composting pits, construct water harvesting structures in school, practice paper recycling etc.
  • Prepare inventories of polluting sources and forward it to enforcement agencies.
  • Maintenance of public places like parks, gardens both within and outside the school campus.
  • Mobilise action against environmentally unsound practices like garbage disposal in unauthorised places, unsafe disposal of hospital wastes etc.
  • Beautify selected road side area with plants and flowers and put campaign boards to generate awareness.
  • Any other innovative programme on environmental issues.
